Les « moules » technologiques dans lesquels les artefacts de notre époque sont coulés font plus que recevoir la matière première — sonore, visuelle ou autre — que l’on veut bien y mettre : ils lui donnent forme. Non seulement ces formes sont-elles prévues (au sens premier), mais les modes d’interaction avec ce qui est présenté comme un outil mais se trouve être un contenant sont également formatées. Comment cela s’est-il développé ? Comment en sommes-nous venus à vouloir que les choses —et particulièrement l’art— soit interactif ?

 

Bio

Jay Scheib is a writer director and designer of plays, operas, and ballets. He is currently working the final installment of his Simulated Cities / Simulated Systems trilogy titled World of Wires which premieres January 2012 at The Kitchen followed by dates in L.A. and Boston. Scheib's recent work includes part 2 of the trilogy, Bellona Destroyer of Cities which premiered at The Kitchen in New York, followed by dates in Paris at the MAC Exit Festival, and Boston at the Institute of Contemporary Art. Also last season, Scheib directed Evan Ziporyn's opera A House in Bali at Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival and Beethoven's Fidelio at the Saarländisches Staastheater in Saarbrücken, Germany. Other recent works include Brecht's Puntila und sein Knecht Matti at the Stadt Theater Augsburg and Elfriede Jelinek's groundbreaking Bambiland at the Norwegian Theater Academy. Later this year Scheib directs a new ballet, The Seven Sages, with choreographer Yin Mei in Hong Kong. Scheib is Professor for Music and Theater Arts at MIT.
